Robert Kagan is a historian, foreign policy commentator, and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. A leading neoconservative thinker and advocate of liberal internationalism, he has shaped U.S. foreign policy debates for decades. Son of historian Donald Kagan, he graduated from Yale and earned a PhD in American history. He served in the Reagan State Department as a speechwriter for George P. Shultz and co-founded the Project for the New American Century. Kagan’s books include “Of Paradise and Power” (2003), “Dangerous Nation” (2006), “The World America Made” (2012), and “Rebellion"(2024), exploring America’s global role, democracy’s fragility, and anti-liberal threats. A Washington Post and Atlantic contributor, he left the GOP in 2016 over Donald Trump and endorsed Hillary Clinton. Kagan warns against isolationism while stressing U.S. leadership to sustain the post-WWII order.
