The son of an Egyptian industrial engineer and an American teacher, Zak Ebrahim was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on March 24, 1983. When Ebrahim was seven years old, on November 5, 1990, his father killed Rabbi Meir Kahane, the head of the Jewish Defense League.

The man Ebrahim looked up to and referred to him as "Amu" (Arabic for uncle) was found guilty in 1994 of blowing up a vehicle loaded with 1,500 pounds of explosives in the underground parking lot of the North tower of the World Trade Center.
