Yolo Akili Robinson is an activist, award-winning writer, poet, and community organizer focused on mental and emotional health. He is the founder and Executive Director of BEAM (Black Emotional and Mental Health Collective), a national organization dedicated to addressing mental health needs in Black communities through healing justice, peer support, and crisis intervention.
With over 20 years in community mental health, including domestic violence intervention, HIV/AIDS counseling, and LGBTQ+ youth care, Akili emphasizes emotional wellness and dismantling stigma around mental health for the Black community. An author of “Dear Universe: Letters of Affirmation & Empowerment for All of Us” (2013), his writings appear in outlets like HuffPost, Ebony, Vice, GQ, and Shondaland.
