After completing his Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training in 1972, Captain Willliam Shepherd was assigned to SEAL Team One, where he served as the platoon leader for two years in Korea, the Philippines, and Alaska.
Shepherd graduated from MIT's Naval Construction and Engineering school for the Navy in 1978 with a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering and the title of Ocean Engineer. When he returned to the Special Warfare community, he was assigned to lead platoon operations in El Salvador, Grenada, Beirut, and Honduras.
