Warsan Shire is a writer and essayist. Teaching My Mother How to Give Birth, her presentation handout, was delivered in 2011 and has now become a Bestselling Book of Poetry. In 2013, she received the inaugural Brunel University African Poetry Prize, and in 2014, she was named London's main Young Poet Laureate.
She was also appointed as Queensland Australia's Poet in Residence, where she collaborated with the Aboriginal Center for Performing Arts. Warsan released a limited edition flyer Her Blue Body in 2015 and created the film adaptation and poem for the visual collection Lemonade in 2016.
