Vivian Gornick, a raised New Yorker, is a grant-winning writer and memoirist who has written many best-selling books and has worked as a columnist for over 40 years. She received her BA from City College of New York and her MA from New York University.
She rose to prominence in the 1970s, documenting the second wave of feminism for The Village Voice. Her 1987 smash novel Fierce Attachments is credited with igniting the journal craze, and her book The Situation and the Story: The Art of Personal Narrative (Farrar Straus and Giroux: 2001) is a required reading for most writing programs throughout the country.
