Oklahoma-native Vince Gill won the Academy of Country Music's Top New Male Vocalist Award in 1957 for his debut independent album, Turn Me Loose. When I Call Your Name, which Gill released in 1989, was certified two times platinum for 2 million copies sold. The title tune also brought Gill a Grammy Award in 1990 for best bluegrass melody.
Since then, Gill has received several more honors as well as more than twelve Grammys. In 1976, Gill began his career by joining the California-based band Pure Prairie League. The group's 1980 album Firin' Up featured six Gill songs, including the top-charting national smash Let Me Love You Tonight.
