American lawyer, entrepreneur, and civic activist Valerie B. Jarrett. From January 20, 2009, until January 20, 2017, she worked in the Obama administration as the Senior Advisor to the President of the United States and the Assistant to the President for Public Engagement and Intergovernmental Affairs. She served as The Habitat Company's Chief Executive Officer before entering the Obama Administration. She also served as Senior Advisor to Obama's presidential campaign and Co-Chair of the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team. The Chairman of the Chicago Transit Board, the Commissioner of Planning and Development for the City of Chicago, and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Mayor Richard M. Daley are among the roles that Ms. Jarrett has held in both the public and private sectors. She also worked for two independent legal firms. As chairman of the board of the Chicago Stock Exchange, director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and chairman of the board of trustees for the University of Chicago Medical Center, Jarrett also served on corporate and non-profit boards. Jarrett graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in 1978 and the University of Michigan Law School with a J.D. in 1981.
