Uğur Şahin is a German oncologist, immunologist, and the CEO of BioNTech, renowned for co-developing one of the first major vaccines against COVID-19. In 2001, alongside his spouse Özlem Türeci and mentor Christoph Huber, he co-founded Ganymed Pharmaceuticals, which developed significant cancer therapies, and BioNTech in 2008, focusing initially on mRNA technology for cancer before pivoting to vaccine development for COVID-19.
