Tourmaline, born Reina Gossett, is an American Black trans activist, filmmaker, and writer known for her work in transgender and racial justice. Based in New York City, she co-founded Trans Justice Now and has been a leading voice in advocating for trans women of color. Tourmaline co-directed the documentary “Happy Birthday, Marsha!” (2018), which chronicles the life of Marsha P.
Johnson and the Stonewall Riots, and produced “The Personal Things” (2021), an exploration of Johnson's legacy. Her book “Trans Power” (2024) examines trans history and resilience. Previously, as a community organizer with the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, she focused on issues like incarceration and economic justice.
