Raised in Washington, DC, Davidson opened for big-name musicians like Patti LaBelle, Kenny G, and Luther Vandross after participating in local talent shows.
Tommy Davidson has appeared in comic shows at local clubs including the Comedy Act Theatre, where he first met Robert Townsend and Keenan Ivory Wayans. These associations gave the actor/comedian his first major television job in Townsend's Partners in Crime and gave him the chance to try out for In Living Color.
