Megan Taylor Meier, 13, committed herself on October 16, 2006, after suffering cyberbullying from an adult neighbor posing as a fictional lad named "Josh Evans" on MySpace. This tragic event changed Tina Meier's life forever. The Megan Meier Foundation, a nonprofit that aggressively combats bullying, cyberbullying, and suicide in today's society, was established by Tina Meier in December 2007.
Over 270000 children, parents, and educators have been contacted by Tina and the Foundation team since its beginning in 35 different states. Tina collaborated extensively on Senate Bill 818, which became law on August 28, 2008, with Senator Scott Rupp and the Internet Task Force for the State of Missouri under Governor Matt Blunt.
