According to legend, George Smitty Smith, Sonny Edward Bivins, and Blue Winfred Lovett, When they were young vocalists in Jersey City, New Jersey, Kenneth Kelly, and Richard Taylor began to refer to themselves as the Manhattans because they would look over the Hudson River at the Manhattan skyline and daydream of making it big.
Although the narrative is charming, it is regrettably untrue. The quintet's name comes from a whisky, vermouth, and bitters-based drink called the Manhattan. Even yet, the term implied class, which the Manhattans have embodied throughout their lengthy existence.
