Boardwalk Empire, an HBO television production, was created by Terence Winter, an Emmy Award winner. HBO's highest ratings for a first episode since 2004 were awarded to Boardwalk Empire on September 19, 2010, and less than two days later, the series was renewed for a second season. Before creating Boardwalk Empire, Terence worked as a writer and official creator for the HBO TV series The SopranosWinter a four-time Emmy Award-winning novelist, and was once The Sopranos' Executive Producer. He earned the Writers Guild Award and the Edgar Award in 2001 for his work on the Steve Buscemi-produced Sopranos scene Pine Barrens. Winter received two Emmys in 2004: one for Outstanding Drama Series as Executive Producer of The Sopranos and one for Writing in a Drama Series for his piece Long Term Parking. He won the composing Emmy once more in 2006, this time for his scene Members Only. Soon after, he wrote and orchestrated the sequence Walk Like a Man, which was featured in the program's last season.
