The Rainforest Alliance's interim head is Tensie Whelan. Since 1990, she has worked with the Rainforest Alliance, initially as a load-up member and then as a specialist until becoming the formal head in 2000. Tensie has been employed in the natural world for more than 25 years.

During that time, she served as the official executive of the New York League of Conservation Voters and the National Audubon Society's vice president of protection statistics. In addition, Whelan was the managing editorial manager of Ambio, a global ecological dairy based in Stockholm, and a writer and specialist in environmental exchanges in Costa Rica.
