As part of his employment, he is referred to as Tim Riggins in the NBC TV series Friday Night Lights, Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Lieutenant Alex Hopper in Battleship, the character of the same name in John Carter Chon's Savages, Dr. Lewis' The Grand Seduction, and Michael Murphy's Lone Survivor. After accepting the opportunity to pursue acting with IMG, Kitsch relocated to New York in 2002. While there, he also studied acting, nutrition, and fitness coaching. He was homeless in New York for a while and started falling asleep on the nighttime trains. He moved to Los Angeles in 2004 and exhibited for Diesel and Abercrombie & Fitch there. Additionally, he appears in the limited edition coffee table book About Face by renowned photographer John Russo. In 2006, Kitsch was cast in his first significant role on the NBC sports kid melodrama TV series Friday Night Lights, which is based on the 2004 Peter Berg film of the same name and is set in the fictional Texas town of Dillon. Tim Riggins, a high school understudy and the fullback/running back for the Dillon Panthers, was portrayed by Kitsch for five seasons.
