Tania Aebi, then just 18 years old, set sail for a 27,000-mile solo voyage around the world in May 1985 in a 26-foot sloop from South Street Seaport in downtown Manhattan. Dad had given her this incredible open door as an alternative to a graduate degree out of concern for her lack of motivation, and she took him up.
She and her ship VARUNA traveled through the Caribbean, South Pacific, Indian, Red, Mediterranean, and North Atlantic oceans over the next two years, stopping in 23 different countries. She traveled through storms and peace, acquiring information on kinships, motivating models, and personal growth.
