Taika Waititi, also known as Taika Cohen, is of Te-Whanau-an Apanui (father) and Jewish (mother) descent and comes from the Raukokore region of the East Coast. He has been involved in the film industry for a long time, initially as an entertainer and now focusing on writing and directing.
Since his first professional filmmaking effort, Two Cars One Night, in 2003, Taika has finished another short film called Tama Tu, which is about a group of Maori soldiers stationed in Italy during World War 2. In addition, Taika's work as a comedian and entertainer includes some of the most original and successful works ever produced in New Zealand.
