Atmospheric scientist Susan Solomon has spent most of her career at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. At the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where she holds the title of Ellen Swallow Richards Professor of Atmospheric Chemistry & Climate Science, Solomon joined the faculty in 2011.
The mechanism for the chlorofluorocarbon free radical reaction that causes Solomon and her colleagues initially put out the Antarctic ozone hole. In addition to the French Academy of Sciences, Solomon is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and the American National Academy of Sciences.
