Steven Russell is a former politician and officer. He represents Oklahoma's fifth congressional district (Oklahoma City) in the United States House of Representatives as a Republican. He formerly served in the Oklahoma Senate. LTC Russell (Ret) informed the unit that was in charge of pursuing and apprehending Saddam Hussein. LTC Steve Russell briefed the first Battalion 22nd Infantry 'Regulars' during Operation Iraqi Freedom. During the first year of the battle, his army was thoroughly safeguarded by every major media and print distribution. Following Saddam Hussein's capture, the unit's exploits were documented in Discovery's 'Secret Weapon' and BBC Panorama's 'Saddam on the Run' storylines. Russell was also the topic of a number of books and articles. LTC Russell retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service in Airborne Light and Mechanized missions in the Arctic, desert, Pacific, Europe, and the continental United States. He spent nearly seven years abroad and was operationally deployed to Kosovo, Kuwait, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
