For seven years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bannon served as an officer in the United States Navy. Following his military duty, he worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, where he eventually departed as vice president. In 1993, he was appointed acting head of the Biosphere 2 research project.
