Steve Bannon is a former executive chairman of Breitbart News and an American media executive, political strategist, and former investment banker. During the first seven months of US President Donald Trump's presidency, he worked as White House Chief Strategist. He is a member of the Cambridge Analytica board of directors. For seven years in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Bannon served as an officer in the United States Navy. Following his military duty, he worked as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, where he eventually departed as vice president. In 1993, he was appointed acting head of the Biosphere 2 research project. He became an executive producer in Hollywood in the 1990s, producing 18 films between 1991 and 2016. He co-founded Breitbart News, a far-right website that he defined as "the platform for the alt-right" in 2016. Bannon was designated chief executive officer of Trump's 2016 presidential campaign in August 2016. Following Trump's victory, Bannon was chosen as the Trump administration's Chief Strategist. On August 18, 2017, he resigned from this post and rejoined Breitbart. Bannon quit Breitbart in January 2018 after Trump disavowed him for negative comments recorded in the book Fire and Fury. Following his departure from the White House, Bannon challenged the Republican Party establishment and backed insurgent candidates in Republican primaries. Bannon has stated his desire to become "the worldwide infrastructure for the global populist movement." As a result, he has backed several national populist conservative political groups throughout the world.
