She graduated from Rutgers University with degrees in American history and African studies. She also took Advanced Placement Studies at Cornell University and studied abroad in Europe at the University of Salamanca. Souljah, a global student, spent her college years traveling to England, France, Spain, Portugal, Finland, and Russia. Her academic achievements were bolstered by actual experiences.
She helped to create a medical clinic for families in Bindura, Zimbabwe, and she worked with Mozambique refugee children. She was a key figure in the worldwide student anti-apartheid campaign, helping to build the momentum, movement, and enthusiasm that released Nelson Mandela and resulted in the divestment of millions of dollars from firms doing business with apartheid South Africa.
