Sheryl Heron Biography

Dr. Sheryl Heron is an Associate Professor and Associate Residency Director in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University, as well as the Grady Campus's Assistant Dean for Medical Education and Student Affairs and the Center for Injury Control's Associate Director of Education and Training. She is a Board Certified Emergency Medicine physician. She served on the board of the Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence and on the Dekalb County Domestic Violence Task Force. She collaborated with the Institute of Medicine on a paper on teaching health care providers about family violence. Heron is a former chair of the National Medical Association's Emergency Medicine Section. She has received several awards, including the 2011 Women's Resource Centers Champions for Change Partnership against Domestic Violence's HOPE Award, the Woman in Medicine Award from the National Medical Association's Council of Concerned Women, the Gender Justice Award from the Commission on Family Violence, and being named an emergency medicine hero by the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Heron has given several lectures on the medical response to domestic violence, as well as on wellness/work-life balance and diversity/disparate care in emergency medicine.
