Seema Hingorani Biography

Seema R. Hingorani has over 20 years of investing expertise and is the Founder and Chief Investment Officer of SevenStep Capital, a joint venture partnership with Permanens Capital located in New York City. Ms. Hingorani is a Senior Advisor at Crestview Partners and a member of the Walter Scott & Partners Limited Advisory Group. Ms. Hingorani was the top investment officer for the New York City Retirement Systems, which had $160 billion in assets at the time. Ms. Hingorani served as a temporary chief investment officer and head of public equities and hedge funds for the pension funds prior to her position. She created the NYCRS hedge fund portfolio and oversaw the investment of $3.5 billion in direct hedge fund investments across strategies and regions in three years, out of a $4.5 billion board-approved allocation. The pension fund was selected Hedge Fund Manager of the Year - Large Public Pension Plans by Institutional Investor under Ms. Hingorani's supervision. Additionally, under Ms. Hingorani's supervision, the existing NYCRS Public Equities portfolio was significantly restructured, and the portfolio increased from $60 billion to $85 billion. She was also in charge of growing and managing a $2 billion long-only portfolio of Public Equities Emerging Managers. Prior to her four years in the public service, Ms. Hingorani worked as the global director of Fundamental Research at Pyramis Global Advisors; as a general partner, portfolio manager, and senior equity analyst at hedge fund Andor Capital Management; as a general partner and senior equity analyst at hedge fund Pequot Capital Management; as a co-founder of hedge fund Mirador Capital Management; and as a general partner and senior equity analyst at hedge fund Pequot Capital Management. Ms. Hingorani is the founder and head of Girls Who Invest, a nonprofit organization devoted to changing the asset management business by increasing the number of women in positions of leadership and portfolio management. She was named the Connecticut Women's Business Development Council's 2016 Woman of Impact, Traders magazine's 2015 Wall Street Women Entrepreneur of the Year, and MarketsMedia's 2015 Women in Finance Achievement award for her work with Girls Who Invest. Ms. Hingorani is a member of the New York Economic Club and 100 Women in Finance. Ms. Hingorani earned a BA in psychology/philosophy from Yale College and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.
