Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Department Chair and Professor of Human Factors is Dr. Scott A. Shappell. Dr. Shappell was a lecturer of Industrial Engineering at Clemson University before joining the Embry-Riddle faculty. He was the Human Factors Research Branch Manager at the Civil Aerospace Medical Institute before joining the Clemson faculty. Dr.
Shappell also spent 16 years as an Aerospace Experimental Psychologist in the United States Navy. In the disciplines of accident investigation, system safety, spatial disorientation, prolonged operations, and tiredness, he has written and delivered over 200 articles, books, and lectures. Dr. Shappell earned a B.S. in psychology from Wright State University in 1983 and a Ph.D.
