Scott Pelley is a distinguished American journalist renowned for his work with CBS News. He was raised in West Texas and studied journalism at Texas Tech University but left to work at the local news station before graduating. He would go on to WFAA-TV in Dallas, where he got the opportunity to hone his reporting skills in a top-five media market, covering regional and national stories such as presidential bids, the Waco Siege, and the Oklahoma City Bombing before joining CBS full-time in 1989.

Pelley’s assignments took him worldwide, sometimes into precarious theaters of conflict in the Middle East like the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and Ground Zero covering the 9/11 terrorist attacks, which earned him critical acclaim for his empathetic approach and sharp storytelling. He served as CBS News’ chief White House correspondent from 1997 to 1999, covering the Clinton administration. Ratings soared when he took over as anchor and managing editor for the CBS Evening News from 2011-2017. Pelley has won 51 Emmy Awards, four Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Silver Batons, and three George Foster Peabody Awards.
