Scott played four games (one assist) for the Devils that season as the team's youngest player before returning to junior for the remaining games. Scott became a full-time member of the Devils in 1992–1993 and was a defenseman on the NHL All–Rookie Team.
With a +34 rating and finishing third on the Devils that season, Scott led the team to its first-ever 100-point campaign. However, the Devils battled through the final few games of the season to finish last in the Eastern Conference before losing to the Rangers, who would eventually win the Stanley Cup.
