Co-founding and serving as president of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United), Saru Jayaraman is also the director of the University of California Berkeley's Food Labor Research Center. She attended the 2018 Golden Globes as Amy Poehler's guest in January and brought with her a general awareness of the problem of improper behavior in the café industry. Saru was one of the eight female activists who attended the Globes as part of the #TimesUp movement.
