Co-founding and serving as president of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United), Saru Jayaraman is also the director of the University of California Berkeley's Food Labor Research Center. Following 9/11, she worked with dislocated World Trade Center workers to start ROC, which employs more than 32,000 specialists, 500 business partners, and 23,000 customers throughout twelve states.
Saru graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government and Yale Law School. She received a James Beard Foundation Leadership Award in 2015 and was named one of CNN's "Main 10 Visionary Women" in 2014. The White House also recognized her as a Champion of Change in 2014.
