American author Sarah Dessen resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. On June 6, 1970, Sarah Dessen was born in Evanston, Illinois. She relocated to North Carolina with her husband Jay, daughter Sasha, and pets after leaving her home in Virginia with her family.
After leaving Greensboro College, she started attending the University of North Carolina, where she earned an honors degree. She worked as a waiter for a while before quitting to become a teacher at UNC. She later left that job to pursue writing full-time. Both Someone Like You and That Summer inspired the 2003 Mandy Moore-starring movie How to Deal.
