Sara Gorman, Ph.D., MPH, is a New York-based author and public and mental health expert. She serves as the Jed Foundation's (JED) Director of High School Programs, focusing on adolescent and young adult emotional health and suicide prevention. Her main area of concentration at JED is a brand-new initiative called Set to Go, a national initiative designed to help high school students emotionally prepare for the move to college. She has published widely on various subjects, including psychology, behavioral science, mental health, and international health. TIME has featured or evaluated her work. Among others are The New Yorker Science, Scientific American, Psychology Today, The Atlantic, Daily Kos, and NPR. In addition, Oxford University Press released Sara's book Denying to the Grave: Why We Ignore the Truth That Will Rescue Us in September 2016. The book explores risk perception theories and the psychology of healthcare decision-making. It offers advice for the general public on distinguishing between legitimate and dubious scientific claims and suggestions for doctors and public health professionals on how to interact with those who disagree with what science has to say about health. In June 2018, the book will be published in Mandarin.
