Salt-n-Pepa Biography

Salt-n- American hip hop trio Pepa broke into pop music when record labels hesitated to sign rap musicians because they thought rap music was a fad. James and Denton debuted in 1985 with the track The Showstopper, a response record to Doug E. Fresh's breakthrough tune The Show. They initially went under the name Super Nature (on their first single). The completed track received some broadcast on a rap radio show in New York City. The Showstopper became a small R&B success after being officially released by the indie Pop Art Records as a member of the honored trio Salt and Pepa. They participated in VH-1's Hip Hop Honors in November 2004. During the subsequent Hip Hop Honors event, all three women came back together and sang Whatta Man with En Vogue. That was the group's first concert in six years, and Whatta Man was performed on stage for the first time with En Vogue.
