Salt-n- American hip hop trio Pepa broke into pop music when record labels hesitated to sign rap musicians because they thought rap music was a fad. James and Denton debuted in 1985 with the track The Showstopper, a response record to Doug E. Fresh's breakthrough tune The Show. They initially went under the name Super Nature (on their first single).
The completed track received some broadcast on a rap radio show in New York City. The Showstopper became a small R&B success after being officially released by the indie Pop Art Records as a member of the honored trio Salt and Pepa. They participated in VH-1's Hip Hop Honors in November 2004.
