D.J. Diplo and renowned producer Gilles Peterson Rye Rye, a rapper from Baltimore, debuted in 2008 with a lively style and some assistance from M.I.A. When a rap left on DJ Blaqstarr's answering machine led to a partnership, she was just 17 years old.
She was introduced to the Mad Decent label, studio, and family via Blaqstarr, and she soon found herself working on a remix of M.I.A.'s Paper Planes and the Diplo tune Wassup Wassup. She began 2009 by appearing on the Bang soundtrack for Fast & Furious.
