Ryan Gellert Biography

Ryan Gellert is the CEO of Patagonia Works and Patagonia Inc. Previously, Gellert served as Patagonia's General Manager for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa for six years, where he boosted the brand's reputation and became a leader in the European outdoor industry and environmental sectors. During this time, he managed all marketing, sales, environmental, and operational aspects of the brand. Under Gellert's leadership, Patagonia started its first global environmental campaign, called, Save the Blue Heart of Europe, to safeguard the last wild rivers in Europe from over 3000 planned hydropower projects. He also introduced Patagonia Action Works in the region, a digital platform connecting people with environmental organizations so they can support causes they are passionate about. With extensive experience in the US, Asia, and Europe, Gellert has served in various roles, such as the brand president, managing director of Black Diamond Asia, and vice president of supply chain management at Black Diamond Equipment, where he worked for 15 years before joining Patagonia. Gellert is an enthusiastic climber and backcountry snowboarder and has served on the boards of environmental organizations such as Access Fund, the European Outdoor Group, Protect Our Winters, and the Soil Heroes Foundation. He holds a JD from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah, an MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a BSBA in finance from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
