Robert (Bob) Lupton Biography

Bob has spent almost 40 years of his life in Atlanta's inner city. He quit a promising commercial career to work with delinquent urban children in response to a call he initially sensed while serving in Vietnam. Bob and Peggy, together with their two boys, sold their suburban house and relocated to the city, where they have lived and served as neighbors to others in need. Restoring urban communities where families can thrive and children can grow into healthy adults has been their life's work. Bob is a Christian community builder and businessman who connects together resourceful and needy groups. He has established two mixed-income subdivisions, multi-racial congregations, a number of companies, homes for hundreds of families, and a broad range of human services in his society via FCS. He is the author of several books publications, including Toxic Charity, Theirs is the Kingdom, Renewing the City, and “Urban Perspectives,” a monthly reflection on the Gospel and the poor that is widely disseminated. In July 2015, Bob published Charity Detox, a new book that relies on his decades of expertise and describes how to create programs that really improve the lives of the poor and marginalized. Bob graduated from the University of Georgia with a Ph.D. in psychology. He works with individuals around the country who want to see God's Shalom come to the city as a speaker, thinker, and motivator.
