He is currently the Medical Director of Ethiopia for the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), a non-governmental organization (NGO) with a history of 95 years.
Hodes has been in charge of the health of Ethiopians immigrating to Israel and is currently a senior consultant at a Catholic mission. He helps sick destitutes with heart disease, spine disease, and cancer. He has also worked with Rwanda, Zaire, Tanzania, Somalia, and Albania refugees.
