Rick Atkinson is an American author, journalist, and military historian renowned for his meticulously researched narrative histories. He is best known for his Pulitzer Prize-winning Liberation Trilogy, which chronicles the European theater of World War II: “An Army at Dawn” (2002), “The Day of Battle” (2007), and “The Guns at Last Light” (2013). The first volume earned the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for History. Atkinson also wrote “The British Are Coming” (2019), the first of a planned trilogy on the American Revolution, showcasing his ability to weave vivid storytelling with historical accuracy.
A former Washington Post staff writer, he won Pulitzer Prizes for journalism in 1988 for reporting on the 1987 stock market crash and in 1999 for a series on the Washington, D.C., police. His other works include “In the Company of Soldiers” (2004) and “The Long Gray Line” (1989). Atkinson’s books are celebrated for their detailed research and compelling prose, earning him widespread acclaim.
