Richard Satava is a renowned surgeon with a diverse surgical education and research background. He received his undergraduate training from Johns Hopkins University, completed his medical school at Hahnemann University, and interned at the Cleveland Clinic. He pursued his surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic. He obtained a fellowship with a Master of Surgical Research at Mayo Clinic. He has been a member of several surgical societies, including the American College of Surgeons and the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, where he served as past president. During his 23 years of military surgery, he has held various roles, such as a flight surgeon, Army astronaut candidate, MASH surgeon for the Grenada Invasion, and hospital commander during Desert Storm, all while continuing his clinical, surgical practice.
