About Rhett Akins

Rhett Akins Biography

Rhett Akins has always had a passion for music. The Valdosta, Georgia native was raised in a close-knit family that encouraged him to pursue music as a vocation. The revived Decca Records company received one of Rhett's song demo cassettes. They soon signed Rhett to a recording deal after hearing what he had to say. His debut album, A Thousand Memories, was released in 1995 to great acclaim and yielded his first #1 single, That Ain't My Truck, which he co-wrote. His second #1 hit, Don't Get Me Started, from his follow-up album Somebody New, repeated that success the following year. Rhett has 20 career number-one singles, including Josh Turner's "All Over Me," Joe Nichols' "Gimmie That Girl," Brooks & Dunn's "Put A Girl In It," Rod Atkins' "I Don't Want This Night To End," Luke Bryan's "I Can Take It From There," Chris Young's "I Can Take It From There," "All About Tonight," "Honey Bee," which spent four weeks at the top, and "Boy Other tracks include Justin Moore's "Bait A Hook," Colt Ford's "Chicken and Biscuits" and "Country Thang," Rodney Atkins' "Farmer's Daughter," and Joe Nichols' "The Shape I'm In." Rhett's songs have also been recorded by Brooks & Dunn, Jack Ingram, Brantley Gilbert, Frankie Ballard, Darius Rucker, Trace Adkins, Kix Brooks, and Lee Brice. Rhett was voted BMI's songwriter of the year in 2011 as a result of all of these successes. Rhett was awarded the #4 Country Songwriter by Billboard in 2010. Honey Bee became the best-selling country male solo artist's digital debut. In October 2010, January 2012, and February 2014, he won the Triple Play Award for having three number one songs in a 12-month span. In November of 2014, he was named BMI Songwriter of the Year. Rhett won his fourth Triple Play award from the CMA in February 2015.
