Rhea Seddon is a former American astronaut, surgeon, and author. Born in Tennessee in 1947, Seddon began her career as a medical doctor, specializing in general surgery and emergency medicine. In 1978, she was selected as one of the first six women to join NASA's astronaut program.
Seddon became a mission specialist on three Space Shuttle flights in the 1980s, including missions STS-51D, STS-40, and STS-58. During her time in space, Seddon conducted numerous experiments and performed medical evaluations on her fellow crew members. She was also involved in developing new technologies and equipment for use in space.
