He subsequently played with Miles Davis on his landmark albums In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew (which has a track named after him), Big Fun (where he is featured soloist on Go Ahead John), and A Tribute to Jack Johnson — In the liner notes for Jack Johnson, Davis gave McLaughlin a homage and praised his playing for being "far in." He rejoined the Davis band for one recorded performance during a seven-day club run, which was included on the album Live/Evil. His standing as a "first-call" session musician increased, leading to recordings with artists including Carla Bley, Larry Coryell, Miroslav Vitous, and Wayne Shorter.
