Ray Suarez is a veteran broadcast journalist, author, and host with over 40 years of experience across radio, television, and print. Born in Brooklyn to a Puerto Rican family, he earned a BA in African History from NYU and an MA from the University of Chicago. His career began with radio reporting in London and Rome, followed by roles at CNN, WMAQ-TV in Chicago, and NPR’s “Talk of the Nation” (1993–1999). He joined “PBS NewsHour” in 1999 as a senior correspondent until 2013, hosted “America Abroad”, and later anchored “Inside Story’ on Al Jazeera America. More recently, he hosted radio programs and podcasts, including “On Shifting Ground” (KQED), and authored “We Are Home: Becoming American in the 21st Century” (2024), which explores modern U.S. immigration. Suarez has served as a visiting professor at NYU Shanghai and Amherst College. He remains respected for his thoughtful, global perspective on politics, culture, and society.
