Rashad Robinson Biography

Rashad Robinson is the Executive Director of ColorOfChange, the biggest online civil rights group in the United States. ColorOfChange has been at the forefront of causes such as fighting for justice for Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and Eric Garner, resisting attempts to restrict the Black vote, and terminating Pat Buchanan's career as an MSNBC commentator under Robinson's leadership. ColorOfChange's nationwide campaign against the American Legislative Exchange Council was led by Robinson (ALEC). Over 90 corporate supporters cut ties with ALEC when ColorOfChange highlighted the organization's role in promoting discriminatory voter ID and dangerous Shoot First laws. Rashad has been featured in hundreds of news stories, interviews, and political debates on ABC, BET, CNN, MSNBC, OWN, the New York Times, Fast Company, and NPR, among others. His op-eds have appeared in publications such as the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, and The Huffington Post. Robinson has been chosen to "The Root 100," a list of important African Americans under 45, for the previous five years by the Washington Post's "The Root." He has also received the ADCOLOR Advocate Award, Demos' "Transforming America" award, and Americans for Democratic Action's "Bayard Rustin Citizen Change" award. Robinson formerly worked for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the Right to Vote Campaign, and FairVote as a leader. Robinson is a member of the RaceForward, Demos, National LGBTQ Taskforce, and State Voices boards of directors.
