Peter Beinart is a well-known American journalist, political commentator and author who is known for his insightful analyses of U.S. foreign policy, American democracy and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He is currently a professor of journalism and political science at the City University of New York's Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. He is also a contributing opinion columnist at The New York Times, editor-at-large at Jewish Currents, and a political commentator for MSNBC. Additionally, Beinart writes the Beinart Notebook newsletter on Substack and is a non-resident fellow at the Foundation for Middle East Peace.
Beinart was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1971 and graduated from Yale University and was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University where he earned an M.Phil. in international relations. He started his career as a managing editor and later editor of The New Republic, where he became known for his liberal perspectives on foreign policy. Over time, Beinartâs views evolved, particularly regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He has since advocated for a single democratic state that ensures equal rights for both Israelis and Palestinians, moving away from the traditional two-state solution.
