Paul Nakasone is a retired U.S. Army four-star general who served as commander of U.S. Cyber Command, director of the National Security Agency, and chief of the Central Security Service from 2018 to 2024. A career intelligence officer, he led cyber warfare efforts during three national elections, a global pandemic, and rising threats from Russia and China.
The son of a Japanese American Army colonel, Nakasone graduated from St. John’s University in 1986 and earned master’s degrees from USC, National Defense Intelligence College, and Army War College. He served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Korea, commanded the Army’s Cyber Command (2016–2018), and led Joint Task Force-ARES against ISIS.
