Nina Warren Clooney, a writer, TV personality, and inventor is Nick's wife. Ada, a writer, and George, an actor, producer, and director, are their children. Rosemary Clooney, Nick's late sister, was a well-known actress and singer. Nick and Nina have resided in Augusta, Kentucky, for 40 years, 20 miles from where Nick was born. Since the age of 16, Nick Clooney has worked as a broadcaster. His primary concentration has been radio and television news for the majority of the intervening years. He has spoken at over 3,000 events as a speaker, master of ceremonies, moderator, or panelist, and has delivered the graduation address at over 30 high schools, colleges, and universities. Nick Clooney was named one of "the finest in the business" of television news by the Washington Review of Journalism while anchoring in Los Angeles. He's been inducted into the Journalism Halls of Fame in Cincinnati, Kentucky, and Ohio, as well as being recognized as a Kentucky Distinguished Broadcaster and chosen to the Ohio Radio and Television Broadcasters' Hall of Fame. Nick Clooney won an EMMY for commentary as well as one for historical storytelling. For his work with American Movie Classics, he was nominated for three National Emmy Awards. Northern Kentucky University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts. Clooney and his son George traveled to Darfur, Sudan, in 2006 to make A Journey to Darfur, a documentary. It was published on DVD in 2008, with all revenues going to the International Rescue Committee to aid the people of Darfur. Clooney joined the American University School of Communication and Newseum Distinguished Journalist in Residence faculty in fall 2008, where he offered Opinion Writing and Films that Changed Us, a new course centered on his book, The Movies That Changed Us: Reflections on the Screen (Atria, 2002). Nick Clooney starred in The Monuments Men, directed by his son George Clooney, in which he portrayed Stokes, one of the main protagonists. Years later, Nick Clooney portrayed the elder Stokes, who traveled to Bruges, Belgium, to view the Madonna, one of the numerous relics saved by the Monuments Men.
