Neale S. Godfrey Biography

Neale S. Godfrey has more than 30 years of experience in the financial industry and is considered an authority on family and children's money. Neale was one of the first female executives of The Chase Manhattan Bank early in her career. She went on to become the president of The First Women's Bank and the creator of The First Children's Bank later in life. Neale founded Children's Financial Network, Inc. in 1989, with the aim of educating children and their parents about money. Neale is the author of 17 books on money, life skills, and value concerns, one of which was named a #1 New York Times Best Seller. Money Doesn't Grow on Trees: Raising Financially Responsible Children is a parent's guide on raising financially responsible children. Neale was the first to establish a children's money curriculum, The One and Only Common Sense/Cents Series, as well as a CD-ROM, called Money Town, both for children in Pre-K through High School. Neale Godfrey, a former Associated Press Nationally Syndicated Columnist, has authored several articles that have appeared in newspapers and publications across the country. The Deloitte Foundation is sponsoring Neale's current initiative, LIFE, INC: The Ultimate Career Guide for Young People, which includes a Teacher's Guide, Student Journal, and Website. Over one million middle and high school students are served by this program. The Mercury Communications Award was just given to the LIFE, Inc. film and program. Neale has received several accolades, including Woman of the Year, Banker of the Year, Child Advocate of the Year, and the United Nations' Femme Award. Neale was recently named one of New Jersey's 50 Best Women in Business, as well as the National Winner of the w2wlink Ascendancy Awards for Business Women. Despite these accomplishments, her children believe it's wonderful that she was a Jeopardy! question and an answer in a crossword puzzle in The New York Times! Neale has served on the Board of Directors of The New York Board of Trade, UNICEF, the University of Charleston, Morris County Chamber of Commerce, and YPO, as well as on White House and Governor's Task Forces. She is now a member of the US National Committee for UN Women's Board of Directors and served as Chairman of the Girls Scouts of Northern New Jersey's 2010 Eco Trek event. She also serves on the Advisory Board for an environmental sustainability outreach movement to "Green" Fayetteville, Arkansas, called Eco-Logical Communities, Applied Sustainability Center at the Sam M. Walton School of Business, the University of Arkansas and represents North America on a YPO Global Taskforce called RISE, which is creating an international ecological movement.
