Nancy Gibbs is an American journalist and presidential historian. She graduated summa cum laude from Yale and earned an M.A. from Oxford as a Marshall Scholar. Joining TIME magazine in 1985, she wrote over 175 cover stories, covering four presidential campaigns and interviewing five U.S. presidents. In 2013, she became TIME's first female Editor-in-Chief, serving until 2017, during which time she doubled digital readership to 55 million and earned a Primetime Emmy. Gibbs co-authored the bestseller “The Preacher and the Presidents” (2007). Since 2018, she has directed Harvard Kennedy School's Shorenstein Center and served as Edward R. Murrow Professor of Practice. A frequent TV commentator, she has won awards such as the National Magazine Award.
