Mojo Collins Biography

Few people have shared the stage with Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, and Big Brother & the Holding Company, Steve Miller, Santana, The Grateful Dead, Ike, and Tina Turner, Muddy Waters, Leon Redbone, Sly, and the Family Stone, Blue Cheer, The Spinners, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, Keith Shealy, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. Mojo Collins, a world-renowned musician, considers his dues fulfilled after completing all of this and is presently fulfilling his longtime goal as a professional singer, guitarist, and composer on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Over the last 20 years, his music has received critical praise and airplay in the United States and nine other countries. Mojo has won a number of major songwriting prizes, including the North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship in Songwriting. Mojo was honored to play at the dedication ceremony at Jockey's Ridge State Park in North Carolina, as well as the relighting and rededication of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Mojo's musical career began when he was five years old when his grandmother taught him how to play tunes on her old Stella guitar. At family jams and lessons from his father, Wild Bill Collins, he polished his abilities. He afterward enlisted in the Air Force and was sent to Montana. Much of the stuff he would eventually take to San Francisco with the band Initial Shock was written here. In San Francisco, Mojo and Initial Shock performed at the renowned Fillmore West before signing a deal with Bill Graham, the king of all rock promoters. Sawbuck, Mojo's self-titled debut album, which included Chuck Ruff, Steve Hatley, Star Donaldson, and Ronnie Montrose, gained widespread acclaim. Mojo moved from San Francisco to Eastern North Carolina in 1971, married, and began a family with two boys, their wives, and six wonderful grandkids! His original music has been performed in concerts, schools K4 through university, church music education programs, The Lost Colony, Devon to Dare, Make a Preservation, Flight of Magic, and History of Folk and Blues. Mojo Collins Live was released in 2007. Mojo is presently working on new original pieces for Opening Act, a multi-media rock and blues traveling show.
