Mj Rodriguez is one among the largest cast of transgender actors to be starring as series regulars in a scripted show. She is also known for her performance as Angel in the 2011 Off-Broadway revival of Rent for which she won the 2011 Clive Barnes Award.It was during her stage career that Rodriguez began to fully explore the transitioning process.
Following the conclusion of the off-Broadway revival in 2012 Rodriguez made the decision to go on hiatus and begin her transition. She began hormone replacement therapy in early 2016. She later reemerged and reengaged with her public career after giving herself enough privacy and time to sort out her affairs.
