Mike Cessario is the founder and CEO of Liquid Death, the disruptive canned-water brand known for its irreverent marketing and “Murder Your Thirst” slogan. He grew up immersed in punk, skateboarding, and DIY culture, which heavily influenced his creative approach. A BFA graduate in Advertising from ArtCenter College of Design, Cessario built a career as an award-winning creative director at agencies including Crispin Porter + Bogusky, Humanaut, VaynerMedia, and others. He worked on major brands like Mountain Dew, Toyota, and the Super Bowl “Puppy Monkey Baby” spot. The idea for Liquid Death struck at the 2008-2009 Vans Warped Tour, where he saw fans drinking water from energy drink cans. He trademarked the name in 2017 and launched the brand in 2019, packaging mountain water in tallboy cans. Using heavy-metal visuals, viral videos, and humor, Cessario scaled Liquid Death into a cultural phenomenon and one of the fastest-growing beverage companies, achieving unicorn status with a valuation of around $1.4 billion by 2024 and raising over $260 million.
